Interesting Fram

Hi,

Here is a Fram that I built that I think you might like.

His name is MrMann.

Shape Accuracy

Is there anyway to be a little more accurate with the framstick angles?
Like if I want one stick to be exacty 12 degrees from another, is there a
way to do it?

Cheers,

Paul Murphy.

Jumping arrow

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this ng but I have been using Framsticks for some months now. It
is a great program!

I have done quite some evolution runs, and although most of them yielded
dull creatures, others resulted in more interesting ones.

The newest creature that I obtained is this "jumping arrow". It jumps in a
funny, rabbit-like fashion and it is quite fast. This is how it was made:
- random evolution for about 1 million cycles
- selection for distance for about 20 million cycles, with 10 creatures
simulated at once, otherwise standard settings.

This is the genotype:
((cfSX),MMXrLsXwX[| G :4.775,1 :-0.552][| * :-69.876,-1 :0.803],mX[@ -1
:883.393][ |-2 :0.768])

Has anyone got a similar creature?

By the way, can someone tell me what the different colors of the sticks
mean?

How?

How would you go about connecting to the "FN" framsticks network . . . > and
how do I get ahold of the framsticks networking client?

thanks,

Convergent evolution

And here is a fram I evolved.

((rrLAMMSIQX[0 :-1.802, *:538.462, /:1.358,

Look familiar?

There are oddly similar in a lot of ways. Even the numbers
aren't far off, mainly concerning the mechanism of
movement. Yet, I did not grow one from the other.
Interesting.

I's and i's

Hi,
I'm not entirely clear on the difference between I and i in the genotype of
a fram. The documentation suggests that i's will decrease the ingestion
capability of a stick. But what if the stick in question doesn't have an 'I'
to cancel out? Does the 'i' do nothing? Or do sticks have a default
ingestion capability?

Gene Pool

I think that the main problem of Framstick problem is that in most cases the
gene pool is just too small. I realise that's nearly impossible to create
and stimulate as many genotypes as nature does, but the problem causes that
the project is still far from reality. The usual result is that the
Framstick evolution reaches its dead end and waiting for changes won't do
any good. I've recently revolved speed-oriented creature consiting of only
one stick and a few neurons, which walked aprox. 0,005! It was so
specialised it couldn't be changed in any way! In nature there's genetic
drift that randomly changes frequence of existing genes. Another thing is
that sometimes a strange genotype is introduced to the population and forces
it to evolve faster.

I tried to introduce a few genotypes in my speed-oriented population, but
it didn't do any good, since it was too rare and as a result new genotypes
got lost.

There should be something as central genotypes database, which I think FNR
is meant to be, that users retrive foreign genotypes to their popualtion
from. We should implement 'disperse proccessing' that will enable thousand
world wide users to join to common gene pool. Since SETI@home made such a
significant success, we should think over introducing such system in
Framsticks project.
