A way to increase seletion for symmetry?

Just curious if there is a way to set the parameters so that symmetry is favored.

Any ideas?

Hello all! another noobie to kick around.

Hey all, just got bit by the Framstick bug. I forked over the $45 for the
upgrade :)

I'll start with my first noobie question.

Does the Fitness parameter for Distance measure the distance from the
starting point (as the crow flies), or the over all distance traveled
(mileage)?

Thanks in advance

music

I want to teach framsticks dance. I will need some music sensors.

For example, high / low tunes sensor and loud / quiet sensor, with the
ability to score for fast / slow motion when music is loud / quiet and high
/ low body position when the music is high / low.

Is it perhaps already possible?

Cheers,
Lukasz

muscles

i know i am posting a lot... but i have a lot of questions...

i have tried some different fitness criteria now... one with velocity as the
only factor, which turned out some worms that twitched randomly. i turned
the lifespan up, but only got some small ugly plants, with lots of A. then i
turned up the size of the creatures, and i got these hugh spider things,
with a mess of neurons, T's and D's. however not a single @ or |... why? i
cant make it evovle muscles... even though i have turned velocity up now.

the creatures i have now are quite bizzare and flat:

something about velocity and distance

i have noticed that velocity is counted even if the creature has no moving
part or muscles.
it seems that it's lenth counts as if it moves... this might explain why
when you try to evovle a fast creature it turns out as a worm... it's not
the fastest but the longest!
so am i on to something or is this intentional?

Seeking knowledge

I am glad to have found this newsgroup, however, there is still much about
Framsticks that I still don't understand. Is there no in-depth users
manual? The "basics" are great, but where do I go to learn more?

I have come to the understanding that the only way to learn more is by
examining the included datafiles or asking questions here. Unfortunately,
"...[Delay,2:2.025][Energy]..." doesn't explain much more than the fact that
there are many more options available than those listed in the
"documentation" that comes with Framsticks.

Is there any source I can access, or should I just start posting my
questions and hoping for answers?

My first question has to do with neurons (listed in
Parameters->Genetics->Neurons to add). I only have a basic understanding of
less than half of those listed and would like to know enough about all of
them to effectively use them.

I would also like to know more about the following Parameters:
Delete genotypes: Inv-proportional fitness - what does this do?
Selection rule: Fitness-proportional (roulette) - what does this do?
Selection rule: Tournament... - what does this do? What's the difference
between the different numbers?

Thank you - if for no other reason than taking the time to read my post.

(Does Framsticks need help creating a users manual?)

Jumping, help

Hi,

I am trying to evolve a jumping creature, but I have some problems. I hope
you will be able to help me.

I want to try to get a creature which jumps and I don't care if it stays at
the same place or moves, as long as it jumps.

My first problem : Fitness. I tried to set a high value to "vertical
velocity", but when a creature jumps, it vertical velocity is not constant.
As a matter of fact, it should be something like sin(t). How is vertical
velocity evaluated? Is it an average? Is it possible to take max(vertical
velocity)?

Then, I can't get creatures that rally jumps. Their bodies oscillate
vertically, but they are never really jumping : There is not a single moment
where there is no part of the body touching the ground. Setting the vertical
position in the fitness does not help, as far as I tried.

After a while, evolution saturates, and my gene pool gets smaller and
smaller, every mutation creates a creature that already exists, and after
some hundreds M steps, I had only about 10 different genotype in my pool.
Why? I don't understand why there was no mutation that would modify the
number of body parts and so on...

Thank for the help

Samuel

collision avoidance task

Here is the task: to evolve creatures which move fast
in the obstacles world. Use the world map to create blocks,
and then evolve creatures in a distance-oriented
optimization. Creatures are expected to either
have an obstacle-robust design, or use Touch sensors
to avoid walls.

Good luck!
