Stick Weight

Hi Maciej,

I was wondering if stick weight will be variable, in air, in Framstics 2?

I have built many Frams that can't seem to hold themselves up under their
own weight.

Cheers,

Ander

Stick weight has been variable (Ww modifiers) but it was disabled
because evolution would discover very light creatures which
would jump and 'fly'... (push back with a very strong muscle
and never fall down).

A thought I have,

I have seen others mention the it should be density, not weight. I am
inclined to agree, but this would still require a manual lower-limit on the
density to be set, to prevent the flying high creatures.

A thought though, in nature it is only the size of a component that is
altered, not its density. Its material can be evolved (and evolution has
some control over density) but the timescales involved in this type of
evolutionary change are massive.

I suggest that it should be possible to define with an experiment, a set of
'material profiles'. These would give min/max dimensions of a stick from
that material, along with the materials density.

The simulator would then be able to mutate a sticks material type (density),
and its size within the materials max/min size parameters.

Combined with the material profiling, it would be possible to see what type
of frams evolve if they can only use very dense small sticks, or very small
light sticks, or some very dense small sticks and some very large light
sticks.

A good idea I think, that will help enlarge the space of possible solutions
to the fitness criteria.
